Lip Filler | Education

Pre-Procedure:

  • To have the best chance of avoiding bruising during the procedure. abstaining from the use of alcohol & anti-inflammatories (like ibuprofen) for 1 week prior to the procedure is best.

  • (Supplementing with arnica &/or antihistamines before the procedure can be beneficial for bruising & swelling)

  • Coming with a clean face is always preferred, but we understand this is not always possible.

What to Expect:

  • You will be numbed with a topical numbing agent for 30 minutes prior to procedure to ensure you will be comfortable the entire time.

  • Procedure then takes 15-30 minutes.

  • Directly after procedure you may have any of the following: bruising, swelling (usually mild right after), redness & irritation due to numbing

  • Swelling usually lasts 24-48 hours, any bruising can be patient dependent.

  • You should not be in pain after lip filler, only mild tenderness.

  • Results can last 3-9 months.

  • If you received a baby lip, it is common that patients will get a baby lip every 4-12 months, patient dependent.

Post-Procedure:

  • Avoid exercise for 24 hours.

  • Use only the chapstick we give you, or any other lip product that is brand new, nothing that is old & used.

  • Avoid “using them” for 3-4 days (making out, or similar activities 🙂)

  • Avoid straws for 1 week (pro-tip: minimize straw use for life)

  • Avoid smoking, smoking will always increase your risk for lip lines & filler migration.

  • Contact your provider if any swelling or bruising is concerning or if you experience any other symptoms or discomfort.

  • Wait at least 2 weeks before getting more lip filler.
